Poland helps train conservation personnel

A course on relic conservation techniques got underway in the former imperial city of Hue on Sept. 11 under the guidance of Polish experts.

This is part of a cooperation programme on cultural heritage preservation in Hue, sponsored by the Polish Embassy in Vietnam.

During the course, lasting until Oct. 3, 30 local conservation workers from Thua Thien-Hue, Hanoi and Quang Nam province are trained in how to preserve cultural heritage sites in general, stone and iron relics and cloth and paper artifacts.

Trainees will also learn how to use modern equipment for conservation during the course.

According to Director of Hue Relic Conservation Centre Phan Thanh Hai, Poland is one of the countries famous for its advanced technology in relic conservation and restoration.

Polish experts have taken part in many important projects in Egypt and Latin America.

Poland has so far helped Hue city restore many relic sites, including The To Temple and Tinh Gate of the Van Mieu (Temple of Literature), which was built in 1808.
